Top 5 Alternative Edinburgh Wedding Venues

Looking for something a bit different…..

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, steeping in history, cobbled streets and castle views all around, its hard not to see why people choose to get married here. It’s definitely one of my favourite cities to photograph whether its in the city centre or on the outskirts. I have rounded up my top 5 venues, each completely different to the next, each with different perks and beautiful photo ops.

Orocco Pier, South Queensferry

Orocco Pier

I find myself in this venue a lot and it never gets old. The staff are friendly, inviting and happy to work with photographers to help brides and grooms get the best wedding photos (always a plus!). You can choose to get ready in one of their rooms upstairs and get married with stunning views over the Forth Rail Bridge.

From the ceremony room, you have access straight down onto the beach for group photos and then you can take a walk around the historic village of South Queensferry.

Depending on the size of your wedding you can use the bigger room downstairs or a smaller area in their main restaurant, this is perfect for small wedding parties. Orocco Pier will even help you organise fireworks at the end of the night as a suprise for your guests…perfect!

Eskmills, Musselburgh

Eskmills

Eskmills is a very flexible venue with the ability to adapt the space to the size of your wedding party. They have gorgeous gardens and courtyard so you can choose from an indoor or outdoor event. Heading out from the venue they have access to a river, perfect for those photo ops.

The courtyard is a gorgeous space and is filled with stunning architecture and a fountain.

Mansfield Traquair, Edinburgh city

Mansfield Traquair

A 5 minute drive from Princes St. and you are faced with this beautiful converted church now a wedding and events venue. I used to live near here as a student and walked past it many times, Im so glad its now used as a wedding space. They provide there brides and grooms with the finest wines and catering not to mention the architecture inside is jaw dropping!

There is small gardens at either side for photos and you can get a taxi to anywhere in the city if you want to capture some of Edinburghs history. The space is completely open and you are free to decorate it with whatever you want, perfect for those blank canvas weddings.

Harvest Moon Weddings, Dunbar

Harvest Moon

If you are looking for something with a bit more of a country vibe, I highly recommend Harvest Moon. About 40 mins South of Edinburgh it is a holiday park filled with rustic cabins, treehouses and a purpose built marquee for your wedding reception. Depending on the weather you can choose to get married on the beach or the woodland. The area is so diverse you can really get married anywhere you choose and have all your guests staying in their accommodation, perfect if you want to make a weekend out of it.

In the evening dinner can be served in your marquee, sit down or buffet and then get the band set up and party the night away. My favourite bit is the fire pit outside to keep all your guests warm!

Marlin’s Wynd, Old Town Edinburgh

Marlin’s Wynd

Finally on our list of alternative venues is Marlin’s Wynd. A venue made in the vaults of the underworld in Edinburghs Old Town. It’s dark, very cool and prefect for the alternative wedding couple. Better than that, you get the Old town of Edinburgh right on your doorstep!

This venue can be used for small to mid sized weddings and provides the perfect atmosphere for a party!
